Laptop Computers


The method for finding the model number depends on when the product was released. Please click the appropriate link below.

For laptop computers released 2010 or later:

  • The model number is listed on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. In this case, it is called Product name, as shown here.

For laptop computers released 2009:


Note 1: If you own a configured-to-order laptop: model sticker

  • For configured-to-order or built-to-order laptops, the full model number is located on a sticker on the bottom of the computer.

Note 2: If your laptop was not configured-to-order:

  • The full model number is not located on the case of the computer. Use one of the methods to find it:

Method 1:

  1. Click the Start button and then click All Programs.
  2. In the All Programs menu, click the VAIO Care folder.
  3. Click VAIO Care.
  4. The model number is displayed in the bottom of the VAIO Care window.

Method 2:

  1. Click the Start button, then click (My) Computer.
  2. Click Local Disc C:. Next click Windows.
  3. Click the file named Model or Model.txt*.
  4. The file will show the model number. (e.g., VGN-FW550F)
  5. Note: If this file is blank, look for a second file with the same name and open that file.

For laptops released between Fall 2000 and Spring 2009:


  • The model number is located on a small label located on the frame around the computer screen. (e.g., VGN-FW550F)

For laptop computers released before Summer 2000:


  • The computer information and compliance label, located on the bottom of the laptop case, indicates the actual model number. (e.g., PCG-N505VX)

VAIO® Tap 20


  • VAIO Tap 20: Model number is on the rear, right-hand side. (e.g., SVJ-202190X)

  • VAIO Duo: When the computer is propped open, the model number is on the right-hand side behind the screen. (e.g., SVD-11213CXB)

Desktop Computers


Desktop computer model numbers begin with the letters "PCV", "VGC", "VPC" or "SVJ", and are located on a small label on the front of the main computer unit (case or tower).


Note: The "model" number listed on the gray sticker on the back of the computer will not give you the correct information.


You can also access the model number using Method 2 or 3 below.


Method 1:

  1. Locate the small sticker on the front of the tower. (e.g., VGC-RC210G)
  2. On All-In-One desktop computers, the number is located on the right front of the computer. (e.g., VPC-L137FX)


Method 2:


  1. Click the Start button, then click (My) Computer.
  2. Click Local Disc C:, then click Windows.
  3. Click on the file named Model or Model.txt.*
  4. The file will show your model number.
  5. Note: If this file is blank, look for a second file with the same name and open that file.


Method 3:


  1. Click the Start button and then click All Programs.
  2. In the All Programs menu, click VAIO Care folder.
  3. Click VAIO Care.
  4. The model name is displayed along the bottom of the VAIO Care window. (e.g., VGN-FW550F)

Sony Tablet™

  • Tablet S: The model number is located on the back of the unit in the bottom-left corner. (e.g., SGP-T112US/S)  





  • Tablet P: Gently remove the bottom / back cover. The model number is in the top-left corner, inside the compartment. (e.g., SGP-T211US/S)





  • Xperia Tablet: The model number is on the back of the tablet as shown here. (e.g., SGP-T121US/S)

  • Cyber-shot Still Cameras: The model number is located on bottom of the unit. (e.g., DSC-TX100V).
  • Alpha Cameras: The model number is located on bottom of the unit. e.g., SLT-A55VL)
  • Digital Printers and Photo Frames: The model number is located on the back or bottom of unit. (e.g., DPF-D810)
  • Digital Photo Storage: The model number is located on the bottom of the unit. (e.g., VRD-MC6)

  • Android TV: The model number can be found in the Help menu of the TV or on a sticker on the back.
  • Other Televisions: The model number may be found on a sticker on the back, on the front lower portion of the frame, or in the System Information menu. If your TV is very large or mounted on a wall, you can also check the cover of your TV manual or purchase receipt for the model number. Model number example: KDL-65HX729
