ILCE-7RM3 Camera Firmware Update

What Does This Do?

This update (version 1.10) provides the following benefits:

  • Adds the menu option to select Pixel Shift Multi Shooting (On: Shooting Interval 0.5sec)
    Notes:
    • When using an A-mount lens via an adaptor (LA-EA1/ LA-EA2/ LA-EA3/ LA-EA4), the interval might be slightly longer
    • When the camera is connected to PC, please use the latest version of the Imaging Edge software
  • Adds support for bracketing during silent shooting with uncompressed RAW
  • Adds support for tuning of the peaking display level for S-Log shooting
  • Makes improvements for a condition where the Eye AF does not work with certain camera settings
  • Makes improvements for a condition where Viewfinder Brightness is not reflected correctly in the Manual setting
  • Improves overall stability of camera

IMPORTANT: This file is only for use with the models identified. Not all models are sold in all countries.

Determine if you need this update 

This update only applies to ILCE-7RM3 cameras that currently have a firmware version Ver..01 or lower.

Check the version of your camera firmware:

  1. Turn on the camera.
  2. Press the Menu button.
  3. At the Menu screen, use the control wheel to select Setup, and then select Version.

  4. The firmware version is displayed on the camera screen.

    Note: If the current firmware version is Ver.1.10 or higher, the camera doesn't need this update.

Before You Start

  • WARNING! This firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It's not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process, downloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
  • IMPORTANT: Don't allow the computer to enter Sleep (Standby) mode during the update process. To change these settings, refer to your computer manual or consult the manufacturer.
  • This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
    • A computer with:
      • Available Hard Disk Space: 600 MB or more
      • Installed Memory (RAM): 512 MB or more
      • Apple® Mac OSX® versions 10.10 - 10.13
        IMPORTANT: For computers running Mac OS X version 10.13, the DriverLoader_1013 software must be installed before installing the camera software update for each camera that's being updated.
    • Camera power supply:
      • This update can only be performed when the remaining battery level has three bars Battery Indicater or more. Make sure your battery pack is fully charged, or use the AC adapter/charger (sold separately).
      • Detach the vertical grip (sold separately) before updating system software.
        WARNING! The camera may not operate properly if the power is interrupted during the update.
    • USB cable:
      • Use only the USB cable supplied with the camera.
        IMPORTANT: Update functionality isn't guaranteed with any other USB cable.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera
  • Make sure all other devices are disconnected from the camera
  • Save all work and close all other programs.

Download and Update the Firmware

  1. Download the Update_ILCE7RM3V110.dmg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Update_ILCE7RM3V110.dmg file. The file is expanded.
    Note: Do not connect the camera to the computer yet.
  3. On the desktop, double-click the SystemSoftwareUpdater icon.

  4. At the prompt, enter the Username and Password for the administrative account, and then click OK.

  5. The System Software Updater starts.

  6. Turn on the camera.
  7. Verify that Mass Storage is selected in the USB Connection setting of the camera:
    1. On the camera, press the Menu button.
    2. At the Menu screen, use the control wheel to select Setup, then select USB Connection, and then make sure that Mass Storage is selected.

  8. Ensure the memory card is removed from the camera.
  9. Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable. USB Mode will appear on the camera screen.
    Notes:
    • If the message Could not find the camera for this update appears on the computer display, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, or try another USB port on the computer.
    • Sometimes when the camera is connected to the computer with the USB cable, a message appears to restart the computer. If this occurs, briefly remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor (if connected), restart the computer, and then start the firmware update procedure again.
  10. At the System Software Updater screen, click Next.

  11. Check the current version displayed.

    Note: If the current version is Ver.1.10, your camera doesn't need this update. Stop the USB connection, and click Finish. Then disconnect the USB cable and power off the camera. Briefly remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor (if connected), and then power on the camera again.
  12. If the current version is Ver..01 or lower, click Next.
  13. The camera will now automatically reset.

  14. After the camera is reset, the update starts. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 10 minutes).

    WARNING! Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
    Note: Depending on the OS version you're using, a loading icon may appear.
  15. When the update process completes, the camera automatically restarts (which may take a few minutes).
    Note: Wait for the camera to power on and return to the previous screen.
  16. When the camera finishes restarting, and the screen reappears, click Finish.

    Note: The message Recovering data Please wait... can rarely display on the camera, this is normal. Wait for this message to go away before disconnecting the USB cable.

  17. When the update is finished, disconnect the USB cable.
  18. Check the current firmware version to confirm that the update has successfully installed.
    • If the version is Ver.1.10, the firmware update was successful.
    • If the version isn't Ver.1.10, download and install the update again.
