What Does This Do?

Sony has designed the BRAVIA® Television software update process to be customer friendly. This software update (version 2.27) provides the following benefits:

Improvements over version 2.23:

  • Provides an improvement for audio dropouts that occur when watching HD content from a device using an HDMI® connection.

Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version 2.27:

  • Improves performance and stability for playback with USB memory devices.

This update is only for televisions sold in Colombia.

How to Check if You Need the Update

Please follow the steps below to check your television software version to determine if it needs this software update:

  1. Power on the television.
  2. On the television remote control, press the MENU button to open the television Menu.
  3. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select Settings, and then press the ENTEREnter button button.
  4. At the Settings menu, use the arrows to highlight Setup, and then press the ENTER button.
  5. At the Setup menu, use the arrows to highlight Product Information, and then press the ENTER button.
  6. The software version number will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. If your software version is 2.27xxx or higher, your television does not need this update.

Important Notes

  • WARNING: After performing this update it is not possible to return to or install a previous version of the system software. By downloading and installing this update, you acknowledge that you understand this update cannot be reversed.
  • WARNING: Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the television to be unresponsive or to require repair.
  • WARNING: Do not power off the television or disconnect it from the AC power outlet unless instructed. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the television to be unresponsive or to require repair.
  • All user settings are retained during the firmware update.
  • To download the update, a USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our televisions. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your television, the same USB device type should work for the update. If the software update is not successful after following the instructions, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device. View formatting instructions.
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device

  1. Download the sony_fw_2011_[COLV2.27]_col_waffle.pkg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the sony_fw_2011_[COLV2.27]_col_waffle.pkg file is 36,956,907 bytes.
    1. Right-click the sony_fw_2011_[COLV2.27]_col_waffle.pkg file, and click Properties.
    2. On the sony_fw_2011_[COLV2.27]_col_waffle.pkg Properties screen, verify that the Size: listed is 35.2 MB (36,956,907 bytes).
      Note: The Size on disk: listed may be different. That is normal.
    3. If the file size is different than the 36,956,907 bytes, please download the sony_fw_2011_[COLV2.27]_col_waffle.pkg file again.
  3. Format a compatible USB storage device to the FAT32 file system and connect it to your computer.
    Note: A USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our televisions. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your television, the same USB device type should work for the update. If the software update is not successful after following the instructions, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device. View formatting instructions.
  4. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded, right-click on the sony_fw_2011_[COLV2.27]_col_waffle.pkg file and, from the menu, click Send To..., and then click the drive (EX: Removable Disk E:) that represents your USB device. The update file will be copied onto your USB device.
  5. Remove the USB device from your computer.

Updating the Software

During the update process, the television will power off and restart. You may experience the television taking longer to restart as it is installing the new firmware, this is normal. Please do not remove the USB storage device until the update is complete.

WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF THE television OR UNPLUG THE POWER CORD WHILE THE UPDATE IS IN PROGRESS.

  1. Power on the television.
  2. Disconnect the television AC power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Be sure to confirm that the television AC power cord is unplugged, and then insert the USB storage device into the USB port on the back of the television.
    Note: The USB storage device can only be inserted into the USB port slot one way.

  4. Reconnect the television AC power cord to the wall outlet.
  5. During the software update, on the front panel of the television, the green power LED turns on followed by two LEDs flashing green, and then the television powers on to complete the firmware update.

  6. WARNING: DURING THE FIRMWARE INSTALLATION PROCESS, DO NOT REMOVE THE USB DEVICE, REMOVE POWER, OR TURN OFF THE television UNTIL THE UPDATE IS COMPLETE.
  7. Disconnect the television AC power cord from the wall outlet to provide proper rebooting with the new firmware version.
  8. Remove the USB device from the television.
  9. Reconnect the television AC power cord to the wall outlet.
  10. The update process is now complete.
    Note: If the PIC OFF/TIMER, STANDBY and the POWER indicators are flashing amber, red, and green, please proceed to the following procedure for a possible solution:
    1. Verify your USB device is in good working order and perform the download process again.
    2. Press the POWER button on the television to power off the television.
    3. Press the POWER button on the television again to power on the television.
    4. Perform the installation process again.

Update Verification (optional)

Please follow the steps below to verify that the software was successfully updated:

  1. Power on the television.
  2. On the television remote control, press the MENU button to open the television Menu.
  3. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select Settings, and then press the ENTEREnter button button.
  4. At the Settings menu, use the arrows to highlight Setup, and then press the ENTER button.
  5. At the Setup menu, use the arrows to highlight Product Information, and then press the ENTER button.
  6. The software version number will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. If your software version is 2.27xxx or higher, your television has been properly updated.
