Pioneer® DVD-RW Drive Firmware Update Utility

What Does This Do?
This utlity updates the Pioneer® DVD-RW Drive Firmware for Pioneer DVR-103 and DVR-104 DVD-RW drives and provides the following enhancements:
  • Improves drive performance when writing to CD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW media.
  • Provides support for 2x speed writing on high speed DVD-R media.

IMPORTANT: This file is only for use with the models identified. Not all models are sold in all countries.

Important Notes
  • WARNING!: This firmware update is specifically for the Pioneer® DVR-103 and DVR-104 DVD-RW drives. Do not install this update if you do not have one of these drives in the computer, as it may render the drive or system inoperable. Use the steps below to check whether or not your computer has the Pioneer® DVR-103 and DVR-104 DVD-RW Drive installed.
  • Please eject any discs that may be in the DVD-RW drive before installing this update.
  • After updating the drive firmware, the DVD-RW drive will be listed under My Computer as a "CD Drive". If this occurs, restart the computer again to allow it to update the drive name to "DVD-R Drive".
  • During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download and Installation Instructions
  1. BEFORE installing this update, it is necessary to identify the DVD-RW Drive installed in the computer, which will determine whether or not this update is required. These steps may vary slightly by operating system.
    1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
    2. At the "Control panel" window, click the System icon.
    3. At the "System properties" box, click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
    4. At the "Device Manager" window, click the (+) sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives category to expand the menu.
    5. Look for a device listing titled "Pioneer® DVR-103 DVD-RW" or "Pioneer® DVR-104 DVD-RW." If there is a matching listing, please continue with this update. If there is no matching listing, do not continue with the steps below because this update is not for your system.
  2. Download the PI-402000A01A2.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the PI-402000A01A2.EXE file to begin the installation.
  4. At the "Pioneer® DVD-RW Drive Firmware Update Utility - InstallShield Wizard" box, click Next.
  5. At the message box with the text "Please eject any CDs that you may have inserted in your CD/DVD drive(s)", make sure all CDs have been ejected from your CD/DVD drives, and click OK.
  6. At the message box with the text "1 target device(s) is found. Do you want to upgrade all drives?", click Yes.
    NOTE: If a message box with the text "After you change the firmware to ver 2.00, you can not change the firmware to old version. Do you proceed to upgrade?" is displayed, click Yes to continue.
  7. Please wait while the update performs the DVD-RW firmware upgrade.
    WARNING!!: Do not interrupt the update process, as it may damage the drive.
  8. At the "Upgrade operation is completed " box, click OK.
  9. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now." and click Finish.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Pioneer® DVD-RW Drive Firmware Update Utility is complete. NOTE: After updating the drive firmware, the DVD-RW drive may be listed under My Computer as a "CD Drive." If this occurs, restart the computer again to change the drive name to "DVD-R Drive."
