Reader™ Library Software Revision History (Windows)

The sections below list the benefits provided by each version of the Reader Library (formerly eBook Library) software. Each version includes the benefits provided by previous versions.


Reader Library software version 3.3 (current version) provides the following benefits:

  • Adds support for the Sony Reader devices PRS-350 and PRS-650
  • Adds support for Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese languages
  • Improves Adobe ID activation to allow activation without reentering the ID and password
  • Makes general fixes to improve stability and performance

Note: Use of the companion Reader Store is based on the user's place of residence (must be U.S. or Canada), user must be 13 years of age or older, and requires an Internet connection (broadband recommended) for online access which may require a fee. Certain titles may not be available for download based on location.


Reader Library software version 3.2 provided the following benefits:

  • Added support for auto delivery of periodicals for Reader Store customers
    Note: This feature is available only for customers in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Added a new icon for newly downloaded or imported content
  • Added support for external links when using the Reader Library software to view PDF and EPUB format content on the computer
  • Improved note export features
  • Made general fixes to improve stability and performance

Reader Library software version 3.1.01 provided the following benefit:

  • Resolved an issue where the Reader Library software might not start.

Reader Library software version 3.1 provided the following benefits:

  • Added support for the Reader™ Store based on EPUB format
  • Added support for the Reader Daily Edition (PRS-900)
  • Made minor improvements to the "Exporting of Notes" feature to always include user annotations and reference
  • Made general fixes to improve stability and performance

Notes:

  • Use of the companion Reader Store is based on the user's place of residence (must be U.S. or Canada), user must be 13 years of age or older, and may require an Internet connection (broadband recommended) which may require a fee. Certain titles may not be available for download based on location.
  • Books purchased prior to the Reader Store transition to the EPUB format can still be accessed, read and transferred on Reader devices. However, new purchases or re-downloads of previously purchased titles will now be in the EPUB format.


eBook Library software version 3.0.01 provided the following benefits:

  • Added support for the Microsoft® Windows® 7 operating system
  • Resolved an issue where transferring content to the Reader using eBook Library version 3.0 may cause the Reader to stop responding
  • Resolved an issue where transferring content to the Reader may cause a device detection error

eBook Library software version 3.0.00.08040 provided the following benefits:

  • Added support for the Sony Reader Digital Books PRS-300 and PRS-600
  • Added support for compatible Apple® Macintosh® OS X operating systems
    Note: Macintosh Operating System requirements: Macintosh computers with Intel® processors, PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processors, and with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 or later, or Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 or later
  • Improved user experience
  • Added native support for authorizing eBook Library for Adobe® DRM-protected content
    Note: An Adobe ID is required for this function
  • Added support for importing files in Microsoft .DOCX format
    Note: Microsoft® Word® must be installed on the computer
  • Improved support for EPUB and PDF content reading
  • Added support for exporting your personal notes
  • General fixes to improve stability and performance

eBook Library software version 2.5.00.09170 provided the following benefits:

  • Support for the Sony Reader Digital Book PRS-700
  • Support for managing Annotations and Highlights
    Note: Annotations and Highlights can only be transferred to the PRS-700
  • Added more user-adjustable text-sizes
  • Added support for 64-bit versions of Microsoft® Windows Vista® operating system
  • General fixes to improve stability and performance

eBook Library software version 2.2.00.18100 provided the following benefits:

  • Support for EPUB file format
  • Support for Adobe® Digital Editions 1.5 or later and Adobe DRM-protected content
    Note: Requires installation of, and authorization with, Adobe Digital Editions 1.5 or later.
  • Enabled text within PDF eBooks to be "reflowed". This will enlarge the text and improve the readability of text-based PDFs
  • Improvements to sync functionality
    • Feature to select a "file folder" and set it as a "Favorite" to sync
    • Feature to sync to an external Memory Card
  • General fixes to improve stability and performance

eBook Library software version 2.0.01.03170 provided the following benefits:

  • Added support for Canada customers

eBook Library software version 2.0.00.07200 provided the following benefits:

  • Updated CONNECT™ Reader software to eBook Library software
  • Added support for the Sony® Reader PRS-505
  • Improved support for reading certain eBooks purchased through the integrated eBooks Store
  • Various fixes and enhancements to improve stability and performance

CONNECT™ Reader software version 1.1.00.13290 provided the following benefits:

  • Added support for Microsoft® Windows Vista® operating system
  • Added a new feature to enable reading books on the computer in full-screen mode
  • Enabled the feature to continuously scroll through book pages when in Preview mode
  • Added an Eject button to allow the Sony® Reader PRS-500 to be disconnected from the computer once all transfer activity has been completed
  • Enhanced system stability
