Now that the music store is closed, you will not be able to purchase or download music, but you will be able to continue to use several features to maintain your library through the end of 2008.
For your convenience we are maintaining our servers to allow you to authorize new devices and computers to play back your purchased ATRAC content. We still recommend that you back up your music library and have provided instructions in the help section on how to do so.
Please click here for information concerning how to continue enjoying your existing ATRAC music library in SonicStage, or how to convert and transfer your existing ATRAC music library to another application.
If you own an ATRAC-based Walkman® device, you can continue using it to enjoy your ripped CDs and music purchases from a fast-growing number of DRM-free, MP3 download services.
Thank you for your patronage during the life of CONNECT.
Sincerely, the CONNECT team.

When did the store close?
In North America the CONNECT Music Store closed on March 31, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Registered CONNECT users were sent several notices of the closure, to the email address on their account, well in advance of this date.
Why did the store close?
We have moved to the open Windows Media platform in North America. In line with that, Sony has phased out the CONNECT Music Service in the U.S. and Canada.
What will happen to my library (content I own)?
You will continue to be able to play, manage, and transfer the music in your SonicStage® library and on your ATRAC player. For music purchased via CONNECT, this means you may continue to enjoy it as usual in your current PC configuration.
To ensure continued access to your content, we strongly recommend that customers archive their library to audio CDs and/or make a backup.
What about all the music I ripped from my CD collection?
You will continue to be able to play, manage, and transfer the music in your SonicStage library and on your existing ATRAC devices, in your current PC configuration. We have also provided a tool to allow you to convert any non-DRM music you imported (ripped) into SonicStage into MP3 format. This tool is available now at Sony Walkman Support .
Note: Please read the entire page of instructions before downloading.
What if I have problems after the store closes?
You will be able to register new devices through the end of this year (until December 31, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. EST) and use existing content in your library but you will not be able to purchase or download any content.
What will happen to any devices (music players) I currently own?
You will continue to be able to play, manage, and transfer the music in your SonicStage library and on your existing ATRAC devices, in your current PC configuration, but we recommend that customers backup and/or archive their music libraries to audio CDs.
In addition, most players support the MP3 format available from many online music sources. Click here for info on how to import this content into SonicStage to combine it with your existing library .
Will I be able to download music I paid for if I get a new computer?
No, you can no longer download any content now that the store has closed. You can move your library to a new PC by using the backup and restore features in SonicStage. We also recommend that customers archive their music libraries to audio CDs to ensure long term use .

Question
I am having problems with some of my imported music. Why won't it play, burn to CD or transfer to device?
Answer
If you used the auto import function of SonicStage CP 4.0 it may have included some music files that cannot be accessed because it is protected content from another provider. Files downloaded from other services are usually not playable in SonicStage and must be accessed in the software they were obtained with.
This is due to they way CONNECT and other music download services handle their copyright protection.
To check if a track has copyright protection; right mouse click on the track and choose "Properties":

In Track Properties, click on the "File Info" tab and check the "Copy protection" field. Some WMA and AAC files may have copy protection "Available". These types of files will not play, burn or transfer in SonicStage. Files with the format "OpenMG Audio (ATRAC 3)" should work okay. If you are having problems with any music purchased by CONNECT, please contact us for further assistance.

Note: You can remove the track from your library by right clicking on the track with your mouse and choosing Delete. Also you can select not to run the auto import during setup and add your non atrac3 music manually. In SonicStage click on the File drop-down menu and choose Import and then Music File.

Here you can choose the folder(s) and or file(s) to import into your library.

Any files that appear in the list cannot be backed up, but all other files can be backed up as usual. In addition, if files are stored on a device such as an external hard drive, confirm that the drive is connected and that its drive letter has not changed since the files were registered.
Choose "Hard disk" or "Removable media," and select the destination location for backup data. Then click "Next."

Question
How can I move my SonicStage library from my current PC to my new one?
Answer
First, you will need to backup your Library on your current PC. You can save (back up) all the data managed by SonicStage as follows

Note
When backing up SonicStage data to a removable media, note the following
Note
If the actual files managed by the database cannot be found, such as when they have been moved or deleted using Windows Explorer, a list of such files appears like this:

Any files that appear in the list cannot be backed up, but all other files can be backed up as usual. In addition, if files are stored on a device such as an external hard drive, confirm that the drive is connected and that its drive letter has not changed since the files were registered.
You may also have files that are not OpenMG and you will see a pop-up such as this:

A progress bar with display showing estimated time to complete the process

Hint
SonicStage Backup Tool treats each track to be saved as one unit, so the size of any one track has to be smaller than the size of the media you use. If the capacity of the media is too small, use a media with a larger capacity, or back the track up onto the hard disk of your computer.
After the backup is complete, you will need to restore the Library to the new PC. First, install SonicStage on the new PC, if you have not already, and login to your account to authorize the new PC. Note that you are limited to 5 PCs per account. If you hit this limit, you will need to de-authorize a PC before you can add a new one.
Now, you can restore all the data managed by SonicStage to a location on your computer.

Click "Cancel" at any step, or while the progress bar is displayed during the restore.
NoteIf you cancel restore while the progress bar is displayed, the database is cleared. Note that the original data is deleted and cannot be recovered. If you start restore again from the beginning, an entirely new database is created for the restored data in the target folder.
