Sony® Power Management Settings Utility

What Does This Do?
This utility allows you to temporarily disable power management and the low battery alarm on your VAIO® notebook to enable a complete battery discharge. Once the battery discharge is complete, fully recharging the battery will ensure maximum battery performance.

Important Notes
  • This utility allows you to disable power management in order to completely discharge the battery. After discharging and fully recharging the battery, be sure to follow the steps below to re-enable power management.
  • If the computer is using custom power management settings, this utility will not work correctly. Please select a standard power management profile under Power Schemes before running this utility:
    1. On the tasktray, right-click the battery icon and then click to select "Adjust Power Properties".
    2. Under "Power Schemes", click to select "VAIO Optimized", then click "OK".
  • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download and Installation Instructions
  1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  2. Download the SOAOTH-01192100-US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SOAOTH-01192100-US.EXE file to begin the installation.
  4. At the "Sony® Power Management Settings Utility for Microsoft® Windows® XP" screen, click "Next".
  5. At the "License Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree" to continue with the installation.
    NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. As the files are installed, these boxes will close automatically.
  6. At the "Power Management Control Setup" screen, select "Turn Off Power Management" and then click "Next".
  7. At the "Power Management Control Setup Complete" screen, click "Finish".
  8. Unplug the AC power adapter from your notebook computer.
  9. Leave the computer on until the battery is completely drained. When the battery is completely drained, the computer will shut down.
    NOTE: This time will vary, depending on the capacity of the battery installed.
  10. When the computer shuts down, plug in the AC Adapter and charge the battery for at least eight (8) hours.
    NOTE: It is recommended to allow the battery to charge overnight.

IMPORTANT: After fully charging the battery, be sure to follow the steps below to re-enable power management.

Re-Enable Power Management
  1. Power on the notebook computer.
  2. After the computer starts completely, go to the directory where SOAOTH-01192100-US.EXE was downloaded and double-click the SOAOTH-01192100-US.EXE file.
  3. At the "Sony® Power Management Settings Utility for Microsoft® Windows® XP" screen, click "Next".
  4. At the "License Agreement" dialog, click "I Agree" to continue with the installation.
    NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. As the files are installed, these boxes will close automatically.
  5. At the "Power Management Control Setup" screen, select "Restore the Original Setting of Power Management" and then click "Next".
  6. At the "Power Management Control Setup Complete" screen, click "Finish".

Power management and the low battery alarm on your VAIO® notebook have been re-enabled.
