Sony® Shared Library Utility

What Does This Do?

This utility installs the originally shipped version of the Sony® Shared Library. The Sony Shared Library allows you to use your VAIO® Recovery Media to reinstall applications on a "clean install" of the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system.

IMPORTANT: This file is only for use with the models identified. Not all models are sold in all countries.

Important Notes
  • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download and Installation Instructions
  1. Download the SOASSL-00598800-US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SOASSL-00598800-US.EXE file to begin the installation.
  3. At the "Sony® Shared Library for Microsoft® Windows® XP" screen, click "Next".
    NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. As the files are installed, these boxes will close automatically.
  4. At the "Install" box, click "OK" to restart the computer.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the Sony® Shared Library is complete.
Application Recovery Under a "Clean Install" of the Windows XP Operating System
After installing the Sony Shared Library utility, you will be able to recover applications using the Recovery Media you created with the VAIO Recovery Wizard. The VAIO Recovery Wizard is an application included in the original shipping configuration of your computer.
  1. Insert Recovery Disc 1 into the CDROM/DVDROM drive. The Application Recovery Wizard should begin.
  2. At the "VAIO Application Recovery Wizard" screen, check the boxes next to the applications that you wish to install and then click "Next".

The applications you selected will be installed. In some cases, after installation, you may be prompted to restart the computer.
