QSI SBW-241 DVD/CD-RW Drive Firmware Update

What Does This Do?

This utility updates the QSI SBW-241 DVD/CD-RW Drive Firmware and resolves the issue where you are unable to create recovery media using the VAIO® Recovery Wizard application.

Important Notes
  • This firmware update is specifically for QSI SBW-241 DVD/CD-RW drives. Do not run this update if you do not have one of these drives in the computer.
  • Please eject any CDs or DVDs that may be in the DVD/CD-RW drive before you run this update.
  • During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Download and Installation Instructions
  1. BEFORE installing this update, it is necessary to identify the DVD/CD-ROM Drive installed in the computer, which will determine whether or not this update is required.
    1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the Performance and Maintenance icon.
    3. Double-click the System icon.
    4. Click the Hardware tab.
    5. Click the Device Manager button.
    6. Double-click the DVD/CD-ROM drives icon.
    7. The list of DVD/CD-ROM devices should display a "QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-241". If this device is not displayed, do not continue with the steps below because this firmware update should not be applied to your computer.
  2. Download the QS-4VS040802HG03US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the QS-4VS040802HG03US.EXE file to begin the installation.
  4. At the "QSI® SBW-241 DVD/CD-RW Drive Firmware Update for Microsoft® Windows® XP" box, click Next.
  5. At the "Language" box, click English.
  6. At the "Firmware Update Tool ver 3.63 for VAIO" box, click OK.
  7. At the next "Firmware Update Tool ver 3.63 for VAIO" box, click Update. At this point the drive will be updated with the new firmware. This process may take a few minutes.
    NOTE: Do not close the ejected drive until after the firmware update is complete.
  8. At the "FINISH" box, click OK. The computer will restart.

After the computer restarts, the installation of the QSI DVD/CD-RW Drive Firmware Update is complete.
