What does this do?
This utility will update the mylo® personal communicator system firmware to add the following:
- Adds support for video recording
- Adds a new menu option for easier photo and video uploading
- Provides an "Optimize" option in Task Manager for system memory
- Adds a function to format Memory Stick Duo™ media
- Adds the ability to display thumbnail images in the Game menu
- Adds support for 16GB Memory Stick Duo™ media
- Improves Flash playback of YouTube® videos
Includes these improvements from system software update version 1.101:
- Resolves a potential SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) security vulnerability
Provides these improvements from system software version 1.100:
- Adds support for Windows Media® video (WMV) files
- Adds support for the SHOUTcast® widget
- Adds a "Game" icon on the mylo HOME menu for easier access to downloaded compatible Flash Games
- Improves system stability

Important Notes
|
- WARNING!!: Before installing this update, be sure the mylo® personal communicator is running from AC power. If the system update is interrupted by power loss, the device may not operate correctly or at all!
- Before installing this update it is strongly recommended to backup your settings and data (content). Instructions for backing up your settings and data start on page 155 of the Operating Instructions.
- It is necessary that the mylo personal communicator USB mode is set to Mass Storage Class (MSC) mode, to install this system update. Instructions for changing the USB mode are on page 152 of the Operating Instructions.
Note: MSC mode is the default setting for the USB mode.
- At least 80MB of available free space is required to transfer the system update file to the mylo personal communicator. Instructions for how to use the mylo Task Manager to determine the remaining free memory space are on page 164 of the Operating Instructions.
- General instructions for installing updates to the mylo personal communicator are available on page 157 of the Operating Instructions.
- IMPORTANT: It is necessary to extract the UPDATE.BIN file from SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE and then copy the UPDATE.BIN file to the mylo personal communicator. Do not copy the SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE file to the mylo personal communicator.
- During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Transfer the Update to the mylo personal communicator
|
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs on the computer. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- Download the SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE file.
IMPORTANT: It is necessary to extract the UPDATE.BIN file from SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE and then copy the UPDATE.BIN file to the mylo personal communicator. Do not copy the SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE file to the mylo personal communicator.
- At the "WinZip Self-Extractor - SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE" box, click "Unzip" to unpack the UPDATE.BIN file.
Note: By default the file is unpacked to C:\SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE

- At the "WinZip Self-Extractor" box, click "OK".

- At the "WinZip Self-Extractor - SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE" box, click "Close".

- Power on the mylo personal communicator.
WARNING!!: Before installing this update, be sure the mylo personal communicator is running from AC power. If the system update is interrupted by power loss, the device may not operate correctly or at all!
- Connect the mylo personal communicator to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
Note: If you have a computer or reader that is compatible with Memory Stick Duo™ media, you can use Memory Stick Duo media instead of connecting the mylo to the computer.
- Browse to the folder where the UPDATE.BIN file was unpacked and copy the file to the top level of the COM-2 directory (internal memory), or to the Memory Stick Duo media.
Note: By default the file is unpacked to C:\SOFOTH-50051201-US.EXE.
- If you copied the UPDATE.BIN file to Memory Stick Duo media, insert the media into the COM-2.
- On the COM-2, tap "HOME" to return to the "mylo" menu, and then select "Tools".
- At the "Tools" menu, tap "System Update".
- At the "System Update" screen, select "Internal Memory" or "Memory Stick Duo", and then tap "OK".
- At the "Confirmation" screen, tap "OK" to continue.
- The COM-2 automatically closes all programs and restarts. Please wait as the update is installed.
- When the "System Update is complete." message is displayed, tap the screen to restart the COM-2 and complete the update process.
- Follow the instructions on the mylo on-screen display to set the date and time.

After the Update - Important Information
|
- After the system update is complete you should delete the UPDATE.BIN file from the internal memory or Memory Stick Duo media.
- To use the Wayport® service you will need accept the Wayport Acceptable Use policy, even if you have done so before.
- To use the T-Mobile® HotSpot service you will need accept the T-Mobile HotSpot Terms & Conditions, even if you have done so before.

Confirm the System Update Installation (optional)

- On the COM-2, tap "HOME" to return to the "mylo" menu, and then select "Tools".
- At the "Tools" menu, select "System Information".
- At the "System Information" screen, make sure "Software Version: 1.201" is displayed.
Note: If the Software Version is not 1.201, please re-download the update, and then perform the system update again.
- Tap "OK" to close the System Information screen.
