In order to increase compatibility between the on-screen remote control function of the LocationFree Player software and audio/video devices, Sony has made remote control data available for more devices. This remote control data can be downloaded and installed individually for each supported audio/video device.

Applicable Products:

  • LF-B10
  • LF-B20
  • LF-PK1

Before You Begin:

Make sure you have the LFA-PC20 LocationFree Player Software installed on your computer. This software creates the necessary shortcut to the folder "Location Free RC_DATA" on your desktop.

Downloading and Installing Additional Remote Control Data with a Computer

  1. Download the Additional Remote Control Data for your device.
    1. Select the manufacturer of your audio/video device by clicking its initial.
    2. Then select the manufacturer name in the list.
    3. Select your device type (e.g. a TV, VCR, DVD player,...).
    4. Save the file(s) into the "LocationFree RC_DATA" folder.
      Note: A shortcut to the "LocationFree RC_DATA" folder can be found on your computer desktop.


      If you do not see this folder on your desktop, please use the Windows search function to locate the folder. If you still cannot find it, please use the installation CD that came with your LocationFree device to reinstall the LocationFree player software, then download and install the RC Data file again.

  2. Start the LocationFree Player software, connect to the Base Station and click "Settings."
  3. Select "Remote Settings," and then select the desired audio/video device.
  4. The newly installed device can now be selected from the list. If the remote control codes are the first of a brand, the new brand name will be added to the list of manufacturers on the left. Otherwise, the codes will be added to the list of devices for the brand on the right.

  5. You can now use the on-screen remote control function for the audio/video device.

Important Notes:

  • The button names or button numbers of the on-screen remote control may vary from those of the remote keys supplied with your device.
  • Remote control codes for audio/video devices made by manufacturers other than Sony were tested based on Sony standard. However, it is possible that the codes may have changed without notice.
  • The additional remote control data which you can download is only compatible with LocationFree products sold in the United States.
  • If your audio/video device is still not listed, try using the remote control code for a similar model by the same manufacturer. Manufacturers tend to use the same remote control code for different models of the same type of device.
  • Please do not change the name of additional remote control data file, otherwise the data may not display.
