USB Update Utility

What Does This Do?
This utility resolves the issue where error messages appear or the computer will not startup properly after installing the USB driver from the ImageMixer CD-ROM that comes with the product.

  • During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.

These instructions are broken into two sections based on whether or not the computer can successfully start and load the Windows operating system. Please follow the instructions in the section that best matches the computer's symptoms.

Section I. Errors Appear But the Computer Will Load The Windows Operating System
  1. Download the USBUPDATE.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the USBUPDATE.EXE file to begin the installation.
  3. At the "Update finished successfully" message, click OK.
  4. Restart the computer. The update is complete once the computer has successfully restarted.


Section II. The Computer Stops or Freezes When Trying to Load The Windows Operating System
  1. Download the USBUPDATE.EXE file to a floppy disk.
  2. Turn on the computer having the problem. The system will stop loading halfway and display error messages.
  3. After "svchost.exe - Application error" or any other messages that appear, simultaneously press and then release the CTRL, ALT, DELETE keyboard keys.
  4. At the "Windows Security" box, click the Task Manager button.
  5. At the "Windows Task Manager" window, click File and then click "New Task (Run...)."
  6. At the "Create New Task" box, click the Browse... button.
    NOTE: The update program is on the floppy disk, you will need to insert the disk into the computer floppy disk drive.
  7. At the "Browse" window, next to "Look in:," click the down arrow and select the drive designator for the floppy disk drive [EX: 3 Floppy (A:)].
    NOTE: If the "Browse" window does not appear, it may be hidden underneath an error message box. Close all displayed error messages.
  8. Locate and click to highlight the USBUPDATE.EXE update program file, and then click OK.
  9. At the "Update finished successfully" message, click OK.
  10. Close the "Windows Task Manager" box and any error message dialog boxes that may still be open.
    NOTE: If the "Restore Active Desktop" option appears, please restore it accordingly.
  11. Restart the computer.
The update is complete once the computer has successfully restarted.
