DSC-F828 Cyber-shot® Camera Firmware Update Utility

What Does This Do?
Firmware is the operational software that is embedded in your Cyber-shot camera. This utility will update the firmware of your DSC-F828 Cyber-shot camera and resolve the following issues:
  • If the memory stick media contains two or more folders, and you try to delete a picture during quick review, it may delete a different picture unintentionally or may be unable to delete the intended picture.
  • When a picture is copied from the computer to the camera via USB 2.0 Hi-Speed mode, the file may become corrupt.
  • When a picture is copied from the computer to the camera via USB connection repeatedly, the file may become corrupt

The process for installing this utility is to download the compressed firmware file to your computer, decompress the file and then copy it over to Memory Stick® media, Memory Stick PRO™ media, Microdrive or CompactFlash® Type I/II media. This media is then inserted into your camera and a series of steps are taken on the camera to complete the installation. Please read all the information carefully and follow the instructions below.

Updating the Camera Firmware
Be sure to follow these steps exactly or the update process may fail.
  1. Check that the camera is still connected to AC power via the AC-L15 AC adapter that is supplied with a DSC-F828 camera.
  2. Verify that the camera is turned OFF.
  3. On the Cyber-shot camera, turn the camera's mode switch to "SETUP" mode.

NOTE: The camera must be off before you press and hold the MENU button.
  5. Release the MENU button.
NOTE: Although the firmware is already copied on the media, you will see the message "No file in this folder" on the LCD screen. This is normal (not a failure). Please proceed with the next step.
  6. Using the arrow buttons, select Setup 2 (the bottom icon on the left-hand side).
  7. At the "Setup 2" screen, confirm the version listed is "1".
  8. Using the arrow buttons, access the "Version" menu and then select "Update." A black screen will appear stating "Access."
  9. Please wait because it may take a few minutes (approximately 1.0 min) for the firmware update to complete.
NOTES: If one of the following errors appear now or later during the updating process, please refer to its corresponding Solution.
    • Error 20: No software file
Cause: The F828V2.ASH update file was not found on the media.
